October Pumpkins: Kindergarten

Image

This week in art, I talked about some upcoming Fall holidays with Kindergarteners. When i asked, “Who has ever seen a pumpkin before?” every single child’s hand shot up in the air. When I asked, “Who had ever touched a pumpkin before?” every single child’s arm resumed vertical position. “How do pumpkins feel?” I asked them.

“Smooth.”

“Bumpy!”

“Really, really good.”

My favorite reply: “Like the center of your hand…Smooth, but with lines.”

This was a perfect drawing opportunity to teach children how to show texture in their art.  Together, we followed the following steps to draw our pumpkins. ImageAfter we drew our pumpkins, I demonstrated how to blend oil pastels with your finger and make colors pop. After a lot of “Oooohs” and “Aaaahs,” I let children work on coloring in their own pumpkins. ImageImageImageImageImageHere are some finished pumpkins from a variety of K-classes!ImageImageImageImage

Great job on the pumpkins! I will return these next week.
